Apples, Pears, Plums, Cider, Dried Apple Chips, Pies About Us We are a family farm situated on Highway 20 in West Lincoln. My wife and six children operate help on the farm as well as some local seasonal help .We have a 65 acre farm with 15000 trees mainly in dwarf format. We practice Integrated Pest Management(IPM) on a farm and only spray if insects reach a critical thresh hold level. Have used disruption lures for the last 3 years which naturally reduce the population of harmful moths such as codling and oriental fruit moth and therefore have reduced insecticides. We are certified under the My Pick program as a authentic producer and as a Local Food Plus designation. The orchard is an 50 year old business and have many variety types of both apples and pears. We market our fruit trough many different avenues. We have an on farm market which runs 12 months of the year along the highway were we offer our fruit and other value added products. In season we go to farmers' markets local and in Toronto. In the winter we sell into Foodshare, Real Food for Real Kids, 100km foods and other local schools. We also attend Poultry Fest in Smithville and other food shows in Toronto. It is a busy life but we enjoy serving the public with the fruits of our labour! Currently attending Food Safety and Traceability workshops to increase our quality of product. Our farm has Controlled Atmosphere (CA)storage that keep our fruit in peak crunchy condition. In our sealed CA rooms O2 and Co2 is reduced to low levels with cooling down to 0 Celsius which keep apples and pears in excellent quality. We also store for other local farmers to help their quality of fruit as well. Additional Information In 2009 we have added a certified kitchen that can help us do more value add products such as the dehydrated apple chips and pies. Highlights this Month Crisp Mutsu, Jona Gold, Red Delicious,etc. and Bosc and Anjou Pears. Always lots of fresh cider on hand. |
